Our Not So Perfect (But Special) Wedding Day

The day has finally come. I got married to the man of my dreams! After delaying the wedding until 2019 and changing the date around multiple times, we finally decided to have a courthouse wedding on November 30th, 2018. We invited only our closest family members and had an intimate dinner reception after the ceremony. Our wedding day was overwhelming to say the least. My now husband and I spent the morning picking up my cousin from her house so she could spend the day with us and attend the wedding that night. I underestimated how quickly the day would go by. The wedding ceremony was supposed to be around 3:30 p.m., and we spent the beginning of that day running around doing last minute errands such as picking up the wedding cake and going to the venue to make sure it was set up for the dinner that night. When we finally got back to the house to get ready, it was around 1:45 p.m. I still had to take a shower, attempt to do my hair and makeup, and get last minute things together for

How We Met & My Engagement Story

I'm engaged! This may come as a surprise to many of you that have me on social media, since I haven't posted much about my relationship.

How We Met

I have lived in the same house with my parents my entire life. This house is all I've ever known. I do currently live in LA part time but still go back home quite often. I have seen people constantly move in and out of the houses surrounding mine. One day, about five years ago, I got new neighbors directly across the street from my house. They ended up being my now fiancĂ©, Carlos, and his family! Although they have been my neighbors for more than five years,  I didn't end up talking to them until a little more than a year ago. They always seemed very nice and would wave at my family when we saw them outside. I secretly thought my neighbor was cute, but I knew nothing about him; he seemed so mysterious to me.

Things changed near the end of 2016 when I was outside washing my car. My now fiancé saw me washing my car and yelled across the street that I "pay attention to detail." I am that person that takes three hours to wash and dry my car (or maybe I was just trying to get his attention ;) ). We then introduced ourselves to each other by yelling our names across the street. A couple weeks later I was washing my mom's car (which I never do) when my neighbor came over and talked to me again. We talked for the rest of the time that I was washing and drying the car. I learned a lot about him that night. He had been away at college for the past four years, which is why I hardly ever saw him. He had moved back across the street with his family when he graduated college; this is when I finally started seeing him around more. As the night came to an end he gave me his Instagram name and asked for my number. Something seemed so magical about that night.

We met at a time when I was living in LA but came home to stay with my parents most weekends. This is still the case even though I try to be back home as much as possible. I eventually learned that he had a girlfriend. I was disappointed but not surprised. He told me that he just wanted to be friends, but I knew that we would never stay just friends. I told him that it'd be best if we didn't talk as much, because I knew that I would either start liking him (which I already did) or he would start liking me. He reassured me that he had plenty of friends that were girls, so it would be fine.

I remember trying to distance myself from him at this point, but it was so difficult. We would get coffee every so often; he would read and I would do homework. One day he asked me if I wanted to go to the movies with him and his brother. I agreed. I knew he had a girlfriend, so I just thought I would take this time to get to know him friends. Right before we left to the movies he told me that he was no longer in a relationship and that he ended it with her a week before.

That night was different than the other times we spent together. We were finally able to admit we had feelings for each other. He held my hand during the movie, and we started dating shortly after that.

The Engagement

We got engaged on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018. We had been planning to make a trip up to Idyllwild, which is a cute mountain town near where we live. I used to go to the snow there with my family when I was young, so I have always loved it there. I had been a couple of times with him when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend, but this time was much different than the others. We put his dog in the car and made the road trip up to Idyllwild. We found a place with a beautiful view. I was so excited to be there, and the weather was absolutely perfect.

We set all of our stuff down on a rock and walked up to a higher viewpoint. I began taking pictures when I was told to turn around. I remember telling him to give me a minute since I wanted to get a picture of an airplane flying by. It took me a while to realize that he was actually down on one knee.

When he asked me to marry him, all I could do was cry. It took me a minute to gather myself before I could say yes. It was such a beautiful moment. No one else was in sight. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my life. It still doesn't feel real. My heart is so full! :)
